The Ragtime Project is an independent research effort to identify, locate, and catalog ragtime music published in America from 1894 through 1925. Eventually, all of this music will be freely available to everyone on this website, without ads or paywalls.
The project began with a pencil, notebook, and an idea that seemed straightforward: write down every ragtime song and piano solo I could find. As I worked through catalogs, period publications, and library holdings, the number kept growing. I quickly upgraded to a spreadsheet. Today, my best estimate is that there are roughly 20,000 ragtime pieces.
To date, the project has indexed more than 8,200 entries, including many rediscovered ragtime pieces previously unknown to historians and collectors.
